Zero-Data Rollup ZKM Units Out to Make Ethereum ‘Common Settlement Layer’

Zero-knowledge rollup ZKM has been unveiled out of incubation from the MetisDAO Basis, saying it plans to make Ethereum the “common settlement layer for all blockchain and non-blockchain functions.”

With funding from the inspiration that oversees improvement of Metis, a layer-2 Ethereum protocol, ZKM is growing a hybrid strategy that mixes Optmistic and Zero-Data rollups into one, in line with an emailed announcement on Thursday. Rollups are a means of bundling transactions to enhance throughput and decrease transaction prices.

The system plans to begin working on the Ethereum testnet in January subsequent 12 months.

Metis would be the first community to make use of ZKM’s hybrid rollup, which can enable the layer 1 chain to implement immediate transfers from the layer 2.

“From a consumer expertise perspective, all of the customers within the Metis ecosystem will profit from immediate, no-limit asset transfers,” ZKM instructed CoinDesk in an announcement.

ZKM stated it goals to enhance current layer-2 networks, akin to Metis and Optimism, with the aim of constructing its rollup appropriate with different layer 1s, like Solana, Avalanche and BNB Chain.

After that, ZKM stated, it plans to make Ethereum a settlement layer for non-blockchain functions, providing its infrastructure to techniques in cloud computing, synthetic intelligence (AI) and Web of Issues (IoT).
